Mares & Foals
We try and keep our mares fit and healthy throughout their pregnancy to ensure they are in the best condition to give birth. They live a natural herd lifestyle and we prefer to foal outside.
Once born, foals live as part of the family group, often with older siblings close by. We don’t rush to wean and generally where possible leave the mare to wean the foal in her own time.
Mares are not bred every year, all our breeding offspring are fully dna verified when registered with the Shetland Stud Book and we have a gelding policy for colt foals.
